Professor Alex Filippeno is Professor of Astronomy at the University of
California at Berkeley.  He holds a Ph.D. in astronomy from California
Institute of Technology.  The most widely cited researcher in Astronomy, he
has published over 430 papers.  Science magazine credited his research team
with the "Science Breakthrough of 1998" for research on exploding stars
(supernmovae).  He was voted "Best Professor" by UC Berkeley students in
1995, 2001, 2003, and 2004.
